For Beta Testers: Thumb Grid!
Back in April we launched the new deviantART thumbnails to the Beta Testers. Over the last few months we've received a great deal of feedback from the community. We're always working to ensure that we put out products that are best for our community, and so today we'd like to announce some new options being added to these thumbnails to give you the best browsing experience.

Comment Counts Under Thumbs (Beta Testers Only)
We just released a new feature to Beta Testers that adds more context to the experience of viewing artwork on deviantART.  You'll now find comment counts underneath the thumbnails of deviations -- they can be seen when browsing or searching art, and also display in your Message Center.  We hope this feature will help bring to light the fact that there is a whole world of activity that takes place behind thumbnails.  In some cases, when a thumbnail displays many comments, it can be a trigger to join the discussion.  Whi

Beta testers are currently trying out the new submission process for Sta.sh, deviantART's upload and publishing platform. This new version includes a simplified and tidier interface that makes it easier to understand and use. The feedback on this new process has been very positive, so we will be rolling it out to all members early next week. New Sta.sh Writer Look
Sta.sh Writer has a brand new look! In the original design, the look that you were presented with did not match the published version of the Journal. The new look is more consistent and also includes the title field in the default skin allowing you to title your Journal as you write it. Previously, you had to title your Journal after you were done writing it.

Film Improvements (Beta Testers Only)

We've made two major changes to film on deviantART! First, film is now fully compatible with Sta.sh and the Sta.sh submission process, allowing you to store and post film deviations directly from your Sta.sh. Secondly, the film player has been overhauled, and the film deviation page has been updated and rebuilt to match the same layout other deviations have, for consistency, ease of use, and better overall appearance.

When browsing through deviations in your Message Center, you can use the "Next" and "Previous" buttons to flip through artwork and use the "Remove From Messages" button to remove each of those deviations. Sta.sh Visual Refresh
 
Today we have released a visual refresh of Sta.sh, deviantART's upload and publishing platform, giving it a cleaner, more modern look. One of the most apparent things you'll notice is a major change in the header, which is now white, to match the rest of Sta.sh. In addition, when viewing something in another user's Sta.sh, the topbar will display their icon and username, to indicate that you are in their Sta.sh and not your own.

Logo concept for Equalitopia.com (name changing, but it still begins with an "e"), a personal project I've put on the backburner for a few years. Hoping to pick it back up and get it launched. I've sketched well over several hundred different logos for the site and this is the closest to satisfied I've been.

Summary of the product:
Equalitopia is a collaborative knowledgebase of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) rights movement, including laws, rights, and public opinions.

Direction for the logo:
  • The = sign represents equality. No other symbol is as recognizable for the movement.
  • I wanted a circular logo because the application is focused on the world and its progress. Maps, countries, and regions play a major part in the app as it's currently built.
  • The inner portion of the circle represents a brain, data, and knowledge.

Yeah, I thought rainbows were definitely overdone and sometimes reflected the wrong portion of the LGBT movement that I was after.

It's definitely slick, but I'll be honest, I did not see it as an equal sign until I read the description. I was trying to figure out if it was some sort of pictograph of a device or a drawer.
