Premium Members can now use Google Analytics to get meaningful insight about the traffic to their deviantART Profile! Using our new Google Analytics integration, you can access comprehensive statistics about your audience, traffic, and art.

Get Deeper Insight Into Your deviantART Traffic

By enabling the feature on your profile, you can now use Google Analytics to get a better grasp on the deviantART experience that you’ve created for your audience!

  • Understand what types of people are organically drawn to your work. Where do they live? How long are they on your page?
  • See the impact of the marketing you do outside of deviantART. When you share your deviantART work and links in other networks and sites, you’ll be able to track the traffic back to your Journals, Gallery, Profile, and much more!
  • Understand what your visitors are looking at when they’re on your Profile and even for how long! Sometimes visitor trends are unclear until you can see the bigger picture.
  • Evaluate the difference in attention you get for some types of work versus others.
  • See a direct correlation between your marketing activities to deviation submissions and spikes in traffic to your Journals, artwork, or Profile pages.

Learn More About Your Audience

Knowing who is engaging with your Profile can help you make decisions about where to hang out, what Groups to join, and other things you might want to share with your audience.

Watch Realtime Activity Flow To Your Profile

Google's realtime reports allow you to sit back and watch activity happening on your content right this second.

View Traffic Stats For Your Content

Google Analytics allows you to dive into traffic stats for deviations, Journals, Galleries, Collections, and other areas of your Profile Page. See which deviations are the most popular today and find out where that traffic is coming from.

Track and Analyze Your Watches and Favourites

Our Google Analytics integration tracks when someone watches or adds your artwork to their favourites, allowing you to view charts and statistics of these events. How many favourites did Reddit traffic give you this week? How many new watchers did you gain last weekend after submitting your newest deviation? Did you gain more watchers this month or last month?

Favourites and Watches are available under Google Analytics' "Events" reports.

...And A Ton Of Other Reports

Here's just a sample of some of the stats you can see:

  • Traffic charts, graphs, and statistics by date
  • Traffic demographics (geographic locations, languages...)
  • Visitor stats (new visitors, returning visitors, time spent on pages, number of pages viewed, bounce rates...)
  • Top sites and social networks sending you traffic and, for some social networks, the individual posts that are linking to your content
  • Search engine keywords people are using to find your Profile Page and content

Measure How Your Activity Impacts Your Audience Growth

Google Analytics can help you make decisions on how you manage your deviations. It can also allow you to see the impact of your on site activities.

  • If you find that your audience is more active on certain days or times, you’ll be able to determine a schedule for posting new art or Journals.

  • Perhaps you’ll find that the more you comment, the more you see your pageviews and watch list jump.
  • If commenting, and critiquing others’ artwork for example, helps increase the level of activity on your Profile, perhaps you’ll decide to do this more frequently.

I sure wish I understood Google Analytics. The page I get when I use this feature is radically different from what's shown here and doesn't have any of the useful features you've got here. :(

Not sure how to otherwise report this, but I've noticed that I'm getting page tracks for deviations from other folks than myself showing up in my Google Analytics reports.  Most only have one hit, but a couple have multiple hits.  With the date range filter set to Today (keep in mind it is still earlyish morning on a Sunday), 7 of 82 pages shown in Behavior -> Site Content -> All Pages are from other deviants.

This feature is probably only interesting for freelancers and stats-whores. It's cool, but that's that(and maybe it's also a little bit frightening to see HOW "connected" this world has become). I mean, I MIGHT install it just for the sake of it, but be sure you won't see me changing my habits of creating art! The existing features did enough and there is this external custom box thing for worldwide pageviews already which I'm using anyway - well, just for the sake of it, not for a purpose! I'm an artist! Not a company boss who freaks out when the sales are lower than a billion bucks a year! And honestly, no one can buy food or medicine from statistics. :|
But thanks for showing us what mankind has achieved ever since someone turned a jar on a stick and saw tiny electric bolts in darkness when they ran their hand across. I'll get my art book printed before the energy grid breaks down forever.

Actually, that's not quite correct.
DA uses Google Analytics to produce their own management stats, which includes data about everyone who uses DA, including you.
Google Analytics for premium members just gives them an option to look at the component of these stats that relate to visits to their own DA pages.
But bear in mind also that there are no personal identifiers in the data and it is all in summary form.

Oh yeah, and it's perfectly okay for only the UsNsa to get nailed by the UN, forgetting the fact that G**gle had already been doing that to those other nations first, by getting into smartphones of various people who travel internationally, when satellite tracking over restricted areas overseas was not enough to see where rockets and major explosives and stuff are, and get away with it, because their company is not technically a nation that has to answer to the UN. Allowing you to use the site for free is not nice enough? You do realize that DA is not free to keep up and without financial support from paying members this website wouldn't exist, right?

They get enough money from the ads alone for that. And yes, its not enough, because it should be free. There are also many issues they just don't address, and they do not care about criticism. Why the hell would I waste money on it?

:iconvioletrosepetals:
VioletRosePetals Featured By Owner Apr 7, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
No, actually they don't get a whole lot of money from the ads. In fact, when the market crashed, DA would have died along with many other websites had it not been for the paying members:

It's a fact that we very much need to thank our Premium Members for their contributions to deviantART.  It's not subjective; we are genuinely in a debt of gratitude to these deviants, and we're honored that we're able to give them extra features and recognitions in exchange for their gift of support.  We've said this before, but it bears repeating and there's no exaggeration.  Premium Memberships on deviantART keep the lights on for all of us.

Some people might ask, "Well, what about the Prints Program? What about advertising?  DeviantART makes money there too."  The Prints Program is a tool that can be utilized by art appreciators all over the world that gives back to artists in a meaningful way, offering them exposure and high-quality craftsmanship you won't find at other websites.  We thank every person who takes part in it, and we're honored to help each of the artists the program supports.  And advertising does help contribute to keeping our lights on, our staff employed, and our servers running, but when the dot-com bubble burst or when the stock market tanked, there was no ad revenue.  In those times, the reason deviantART survived and so many other sites didn't (because their venture capital imploded) was that deviantART continued to have its vision supported by our deviants. ~New Username Symbols: Extended Thoughts

Most people today have learned to visually filter out the ads when looking at a page, so unless something is really eye-catching to them specifically, they're not going to click on it, and that is how DA gets money from the ads. Someone has to click on them.

Why should it be free? Give me a real, concrete reason why everyone around the globe should be entitled to the hard work of so many people for absolutely nothing. I guarantee that you cannot come up with a way that makes everything being free more beneficial, because if it was all free, then they wouldn't be able to pay anyone to make any of the features in the first place, which just means the website would suck more and you probably wouldn't be a member at all.

Actually, DA cares a great deal about criticism. They actually read every single comment posted directly on each of those weekly site updates. They don't respond because that would take far too long, but when someone has a good idea, or when a thought seems prevalent in the general population, they listen. It may not be obvious right away, or even in the same year, but they are listening. Websites, especially ones as large as DA, take time to put together or adjust, and much of what they do is actually very complex, not to mention DA is actually the first website to do a lot of what it does, so they have to build from scratch rather than borrowing bits of code. Plus, if they didn't care what we thought, they wouldn't have the Suggestions Forum would they? I have been here a long time (since 2005 under one name or another) and I have watched DA evolve quite a bit over the years. Most of the features they create and make available come from the suggestions/complaints of the community. They most certainly care about their members. If they didn't, well, then they wouldn't have any and this website wouldn't exist. V8 of DA almost did that, over a million people threatened to shut down their accounts after it first came out, but DA listened and fixed it, and things are far better now. No, they most certainly listen to and care about their members.

Oh and by the way, the amount of features you get by 'wasting' a whole $30 every year ($2.50 a month), is pretty awesome (check out the official list here, and actually that's pretty general, what you can do under each of those headings is quite astounding), not the least of which is no ad surfing, which honestly is the reason I pay for it in the first place. The rest is just extras to me that I make full use of. It's really not a waste, nor is it overpriced, but I guess that's just my opinion, which I am entitled to, and if you disagree (which is your opinion that you are also entitled to) then feel free to continue complaining about how all the good features go to the people who actually support the site while the people who just float along with the freebees continue to hear about things they could have if they were willing to part with a few dollars a month.

To be blunt, the time I did have premium, and I hate to make a dunce statement, but aside from the star next to my icon, while whatever unlocks might of been there, I really did not notice too much of a difference. I thought I opted into certain beta participation, but nothing ever happened.

Beta participation isn't something that automatically happens when you choose it, they need to have something for you to beta test first, then they notify you and you knowingly go test said thing and give them feedback. Also, all the features? You have to actively go explore and use them. They only thing that will change automatically is the lack of ads everywhere and the star next to your name. If you don't go 'turn on' the extras, then they will remain dormant.

I can't say that. It's always a matter of trial and error. Your only going to know if you like it or not, after you try it out for yourself. All things considered, people already have Adobe and AIGA as it is, and firewall or popup blocker thing in google chrome already conceal ad's anyway. It's really too bad a deal could not be resolved to work all three out once. However, due to the "friendly" "mature" and "wiser" behavior of other star members though, any desire I had in paying up to be in that Typical Hollywood Hills party has been depleted, I would not regret tossing that invitation out into the trash, and saving some more of my own cash.

Why don't you go away and work out for yourself what type of chocolate bar costs the equivalent of 1 week Premium membership? You seem to know more about them than I do. Which is the point I was making in the first place. Make a choice and stop whining and expecting everything to be handed to you for nothing. You aren't living in a third world country where you have to worry yourself sick about how you are going to feed yourself and your family. Go out and work for it if you want it.

I totally agree with you and everyone who can't effort a premium membership. It really sucks. I do still see this page from the view of a non-subscriber as well because the only way I can effort the membership is through donations, as well as participating in giveaways and contests. It's hell to keep it running in order to not lose my layout when I wish to make a little change to my page. It practically keeps me from creating the art I want to create and that's just not fair. They won't get more subscribers this way, just more haters.

While this is neat and all, and some may love it, I myself would not want it.

I mean, why do I need to know the demographic that my art appeals to? When I submit art, sure I hope that others will see it and enjoy it, but I'm not going to submit certain things just to cater to them in an attempt to get more likes, favs, comments, or views. I feel that if they like my art, GREAT! If they don't, that's okay too!

I don't mind drawing suggestions sometimes, or even some gift art for special inter-web friends. I think it is better to become friends and get to know the person better through communication, rather than looking at a bunch of statistics and data on them.

Why do I need to know that most of my views and favs are from people in Canada? I'll accept the favs. and thank them, but I want to learn about THEM, as friends, not as numbers. And hey, I may draw them a thank you for being a friend and loyal follower picture, but I'm not going to start drawing pictures based solely on what they liked, hoping to get more attention.
