We're excited to announce that we just implemented enhancements to the way deviantART links display on Twitter, giving you and your artwork more prominence and exposure!

We're always looking for ways to give artists better exposure -- both on deviantART and across the web. Not only do these changes give artists a bigger presence across Twitter by allowing them to reach a bigger audience, but they also encourage proper attribution.

What's New

  • Artwork will appear larger on Twitter.
  • Titles and descriptions of artwork are now automatically included!
  • Links to Profiles, Groups, Favourites, Galleries, Collections, Journals, and Sta.sh items will now display inline! When profiles are shared, it pulls in your deviantID and bio.
  • Tweets including deviantART links are now eligible to show up in more places across Twitter, including Twitter's "Discover" page, their automated emails, and when embedding Tweets on other sites.
  • In Twitter search, deviantART links are now eligible to show up automatically expanded, giving your artwork more prominence.
  • Artwork will now show up on mobile devices and tablets!

Add the Twitter Widget to Your Profile Page

Premium Members, if you have the Twitter Widget installed on your Profile Page, your Twitter username will be included whenever someone shares your artwork, Journals, or profile, allowing viewers to easily follow you.

Remember to Use the Share Buttons

Remember: Using the share button on deviation pages is an easy way to share content and ensures that the artist will be properly attributed with a link back to the original artwork.

      Plus: Enlarged Facebook Thumbnails

As of a few weeks ago, Facebook implemented a change which increased the size of thumbnail images in the News Feed from 90x90 pixels to 154x154 pixels. We've adjusted the way these thumbnails display on Facebook, taking advantage of the bigger size, giving your artwork a bigger presence on your friends and fans' News Feeds.

That is really neat and all, but really why isn't your focus on things that really matter, like how a huge percentage of deviantART users can no longer upload their work due to errors and incompatibility issues with the new submission page?

Just 2 days ago, when I submitted and checked the PRINTS ENABLED option, and included my work to be featured in a group i'm in, it said that I can't have prints enabled when submitting to a group. This has never happened to any my submissions before. Very annoying as I enable prints for all my photos. Now I have to choose to enable prints and not submit to a group or not enable prints and submit to be featured in groups I am a part of.

Note that if you submit to a Group and uncheck all of your gallery folders, you will be submitting exclusively to that Group.

However, I just confirmed an issue with the error still persisting after you've checked a gallery folder. I submitted the issue to our developers to have it fixed. Thanks!

Thank you, I personally haven't had any yet, but I've read a lot of the comments on the announcement about the new submission page and many of them report being unable to submit artwork anymore.

It does take me twice as long to submit artwork now that the new submission page has been implemented though, and considering I have a very busy schedule (kids, work, church, etc.) and only have a short while every morning before work to submit artwork, I am almost unable to do so now. I know my progress can be saved, but the fact still is that I can't post half the images I used to anymore, it all just takes too long to load, not to mention the new color scheme gives me headaches. Only reason I can use DA for hours on end is because it's not so bright.

I know the DA staff worked very hard on the new submission page and I appreciate that, but I really wish they'd stop trying to fix what's not broken. That and the new 'More Like This' thumbnail widget on deviation pages is really making me not like where DA is headed. Who's idea was it to take the one place where an artist's work should be the sole focus of the viewer, and plop a bunch of other artwork from other artists next to it without any say from the artist trying to display, possibly even sell, their work? And why is it ABOVE the 'buy this print' widget? That, to me, is highly insulting. What if you went to a gallery and got yourself a little corner to hang your artwork in. Then once you were all done organizing your display, the gallery curator said that they were going to also hang artwork in your space from other artists in the gallery with directions to where that other artwork can be found, and you have no say in what is hung and if you don't like it then take your work and get out. I understand that in a gallery setting the artist would have paid for that corner and DA is largely a free site, but there are quite a few DA members who pay for their subscriptions, me included, and to pay for your corner and then to have it invaded like that, it's not right. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the idea of 'More Like This' as a functional feature of deviantART, but it could still use a lot of tweaking and it should only ever be a button that a viewer chooses to click rather than a box of thumbnails that will detract from the artwork the artist is attempting to showcase.

Sorry for the rather ranty wall of text (it is most certainly not directed specifically at you), but I and many others have mentioned this in comments on the updates about the features themselves, and from what I can tell no one even seems to care that we're upset. This is the first time I've gotten a comment back from someone who can actually do something about it (or at least has in influence on those who can) when I've shared my opinion about new features, whether I liked them or not.

The Twitter widget is a premium feature only, meaning you need to be a premium member to use it. I don't know if there's a way to auto update your Twitter when you upload on DA, but when you post something to Twitter, it auto updates the Twitter widget.

Hey, kinda unrelated to Twitter, but did you know Pinterest has Deviantart links blocked as spam? I can never share a deviation from anyone on here because people have reported dA enough to be blocked from all of Pinterest. I tried writing them about it, but heard nothing. Maybe you guys should do it. Pinterest is getting huge so I'd hate to not have dA get it's dues there. The issue MAY have started with the fav.me url's that you can copy and share, they tend to look like those scam shortened url's that ads use to hide their source. Anywho, heads up. :)

Could you give me an example of a deviation that Pinterest is blocking as spam? I pinned a deviation yesterday and it worked fine. And just now. DeviantART also has a Pinterest page and we pin stuff all the time! :aww:

Just tried two 'fav.me' urls (under the 'Details' on the rightside of a Deviation's page) and the message "users have reported that this links to spam or other inappropriate content" And I had used fav.me links from various artists.

Also, is there any chance in the future of Pinterest and DeviantART working together on their website verification system? Right now the only way to verify a website is to paste a code into your own website. So for third party websites like our pages, we do not have access to that.

Actually, Pinterest has blacklisted all redirecting URLs -- not just deviantART's. They do the same for bit.ly and tinyurl links. When posting to Pinterest, you should use the permanent link rather than the fav.me links.

Comment votes were used from 2003 til somewhere between 2004/05 because trollers often used it to "up" bad comments on deviations.

Hmm, there was some sort of comment rating system I believe. I saw some old screenshots from mid-2003, and the comments had the username, then the date below it, and then a rating below that like Rating: 3.00/1. You could order comments by comment rating too.

oh god upvote/downvote on an art site is a TERRIBLE idea OTL SheezyART has that system and it was once used to troll me really viciously, to the point of leaving the site. I've seen it used to troll countless other artists as well. Not a good idea, especially not with all the trolls on dA

Though the editing and deleting of comments (though maybe with a system like the "delete artwork" thing) is something I'd like ouo

I don't mean upvote or downvote on art; just comments. Maybe you weren't being trolled, maybe you were just saying stupid things. I'm suspicious of anyone objecting to a +/- system; makes me think they are probably part of the reason one should exist...

Ah, well then, that's different! I'd say my art being downvoted to -53 by 4 people using alt accounts counts as trolling, especially considering as I used to keep to myself for the most part.

By the way, there was no reason for you to insinuate that, as that was incredibly rude, when I was being polite in my initial comment and even now.

Well considering as I opposed upvote/downvote on art, not comments, that's semi-invalid. I honestly wouldn't care if there was a vote system on comments and someone downvoted a comment of mine, because some people just aren't going to like my opinions. That's life /shrug

On art though, it's just another way for people to hurt other people, and still remain anonymous in the process.

Art is so subjective it wouldn't make sense imo to have upvote/downvotes for art. If something is against TOS, there's the report system (though I don't really know how effective it is)....

It really doesn't make sense. I don't know why Sheezy has it, as it's pretty much just an open opportunity to troll people :/

And sadly on dA, the report system means diddly squat. I've reported so many violations and rarely do I get a notice back that they were resolved. Usually if I get a notice, it's to tell me they can't do anything about it. What's the point of a report system if they don't do anything about the violations? >:C

Ack, for every 3 steps backward

Fix it so we can edit comments, even if only for a short period. Like 10 minutes. Or if not *edit* them, APPEND them; an add-on at the bottom of the original comment (as opposed to a separated reply-like box)

      Nice.

Now, if only we can actually Submit art so we can share it, AND ONCE people come to our pages they are not immediately taken away by clicking on the thumbnails of other artists which are resting so prominently next to ours.

See, this is what's known as 1 step forward for every 1 steps backward. Not really getting anywhere.

Y'all need to stop being so excited about announcing stuff and start listening to your membership, especially the paying ones.

And don't think it has not been noticed that y'all disabled the Like/Dislike feature on these Updates; they were showing exactly how unpopular your "excited" announcements are.
