Hello, deviants! In an effort to keep the community informed and to provide the best possible experience for our members, we wanted to inform you of changes to our reporting system.
DeviantART is dedicated to protecting our artists, and in an effort to be able to more quickly handle complaints by deviants who have had their rights infringed on, we have changed the way we receive complaints from the artist or the copyright holder.
In the past, we took reports by the copyright holder in two different ways: An informal report via the Report Violation tool and a formal complaint via contacting the Help Desk. While both of these methods were effective, they presented many setbacks.

The informal report did not gather all the necessary information for a formal copyright complaint and was prone to misuse by well-meaning deviants who would attempt to report images they did not own the copyright to

Critmas: results!Critique is something we all desire- its why most people are on dA. We want feedback on our work- some of us just to validate ourselves, others for improvement tips and others who are aiming for move their work on and want genuine suggestions to assist with that.
That is quite a demanding request.
Fortunately, there are people out there who do take their time to look at work, take the time to review, respond and offer this critique. And writing a critique is time consuming, even more so when you’re writing several. Sometimes I think that people forget that, which is why Critmas has a message not just about giving critique out for prizes, but to thank those who do offer that free time to help others with their work.
We can often be quite selfish, expecting critique from others but aren’t willing to give back. Even if you took the time to challenge yourself and write one a week, you will reap the benefits.
Anyhow enough of the lecture; let’s see the results!

I don't know about you, but Light Painting has to be really unique and awesome in order to impress me. So when I stumbled across the work of Darren Pearson aka Darren Twin - I was astounded at the creativity and simple methods used to create his conceptual photographic pieces. Darren creates LED pictures of Skeletons Skateboarding, dancing and living - exploring what the Mail Online has termed as the bare bones of our daily lives. And it really is precisely that. Darren takes the ordinary, the mundane and the normal of everyday life and lights it up by night by painting bones. Check it out for yourself. That prompted me to go searching for some of my favourite light painted pieces here

Weather Photography has always fascinated me - the weather in general does anyway, but capturing those changes, shifts in atmosphere and so on have always had me in awe. However when browsing the latest news within popular photography early this week I was stunned by an image that NASA had captured of hurricane Isaac as it lurked over the USA. I've been in a hurricane before, but it never felt as organised or precise as this image shows. This shows a smooth beautiful cloud formation. When below it's likely wreaking havoc and destroying lives. It's difficult to match the two together and contemplate them as the same thing. In my opinion, one of the greatest advantages to the New Submission Process, are the thumbnail examples and descriptions that appear when you're selecting a category. It's no secret that we have misplaced deviations throughout the galleries and it's probably the most complained about topic I deal with on a daily basis. My team and I have been working hard to improve the descriptions and thumbnail examples for all of the galleries, and I'm happy

R&S - Font Gallery Update!!I am very happy to make an announcement today that is something that I have been eyeing suspiciously for a while and now am very relieved to see it done:
The Resource & Stock Images > Fonts gallery has been relaunched!

Now, without going into much detail, it used to be subpar. The category names were unprofessional and confusing, leading to frustrating search results and many many miscats.
Over the last month there has been a lot of work put into changing this status.

I read a very interesting article this week debating Photography Vs Literature and which one of the two tells us more. Of course there is always the element that a picture could be accompanied by words but neither aspect is enough to tell a whole story. But as the article says, Photography has become a universal constant in the world today and is accessible to nearly everybody. Yet many still believe that only pure narration can truly tell a story. What are your thoughts? As Photographers we can choose to limit what we tell or show with a photograph, we can even mislead. Can we convey more with words? Or more with an image? You could describe a person with words but never truly give an accurate picture of who they are visually without a photograph...

Improved deviantART Integration on Twitter

We're excited to announce that we just implemented enhancements to the way deviantART links display on Twitter, giving you and your artwork more prominence and exposure!

We're always looking for ways to give artists better exposure -- both on deviantART and across the web. Not only do these changes give artists a bigger presence across Twitter by allowing them to reach a bigger audience, but they also encourage proper attribution.

What's New

Artwork will appear larger on Twitter.
Titles and descriptions of artwork are now automatically included!
Links to Profiles, Groups, Favourites, Galleries, Collections, Journals, and Sta.sh items will now display inline! When profiles are shared, it pulls in your deviantID and bio.
Tweets including deviantART links are now eligible to show up in more places across Twitter, including Twitter's "Discover" page, their automated emails, and when embedding Tweets on other sites.
In Twitter search, deviantART links are now eligible to show up automatically expanded, giving your artwork more prominence.
Artwork will now show up on mobile devices and tablets!

Add the Twitter Widget to Your Profile Page

Premium Members, if you have the Twitter Widget installed on your Profile Page, your Twitter username will be included whenever someone shares your artwork, Journals, or profile, allowing viewers to easily follow you.

Remember to Use the Share Buttons

Remember: Using the share button on deviation pages is an easy way to share content and ensures that the artist will be properly attributed with a link back to the original artwork.

Plus: Enlarged Facebook Thumbnails

As of a few weeks ago, Facebook implemented a change which increased the size of thumbnail images in the News Feed from 90x90 pixels to 154x154 pixels. We've adjusted the way these thumbnails display on Facebook, taking advantage of the bigger size, giving your artwork a bigger presence on your friends and fans' News Feeds.

That is really neat and all, but really why isn't your focus on things that really matter, like how a huge percentage of deviantART users can no longer upload their work due to errors and incompatibility issues with the new submission page?

Just 2 days ago, when I submitted and checked the PRINTS ENABLED option, and included my work to be featured in a group i'm in, it said that I can't have prints enabled when submitting to a group. This has never happened to any my submissions before. Very annoying as I enable prints for all my photos. Now I have to choose to enable prints and not submit to a group or not enable prints and submit to be featured in groups I am a part of.

Note that if you submit to a Group and uncheck all of your gallery folders, you will be submitting exclusively to that Group.

However, I just confirmed an issue with the error still persisting after you've checked a gallery folder. I submitted the issue to our developers to have it fixed. Thanks!
