With over 1.5 million comments posted per day, deviantART's commenting system provides the backbone for fostering relationships across the globe. Whether mentoring one another, providing artistic support, or checking in with a friend, commenting is one of the site's most used and loved features.

To highlight this vital aspect of community interaction and provide more control around conversations, we’re proud to release the first in a series of improvements to comments.

Featured

The Featured comments option allows deviants to showcase the most meaningful or interesting feedback they’ve received — helping those comments stand out from the rest. When someone leaves a feature-worthy reply on one of your deviations, you can now highlight that comment from the pencil menu.

Featured comments on deviations are highlighted and denoted with a special label.

Edit

Whether it’s a flubbed letter or simple misspelling, embarrassing typos happen to us all. With the ability to edit comments, you can now avoid awkward follow-up explanations. Located in the pencil menu, the “Edit Comment” feature allows you to update a reply you’ve posted in the last 24 hours.

Edited comments are denoted by an “Edited” label next to the timestamp. Clicking the timestamp will display a log of changes made.

Hide

To withdraw a comment you’ve previously posted, use the pencil menu’s “Hide Comment” option. This will remove your comment from view, remove it from the Message Center, and prevent it from getting replies, effectively erasing the comment from conversation.

Comments can be hidden by their owner at any time — there is no time restriction on this feature.

Looking Ahead

The Featured, Edit, and Hide improvements are the first in a larger comments revamp still to come.  This update could include anything from up-voted comments to comment sorting, and much more. You tell us what you've always wanted out of a comment box! Revitalizing our comments system is the first step of many to elevate conversations and foster meaningful connections.
