Multi-Submit and Scheduled Submit

Tue May 14, 2013, 3:13 PM
Two heavily requested tools to make submitting art to deviantART even easier than before have just been launched to Beta Testers!

Multi-Submit

Screen Shot 2013-05-14 at 11.07.21 AM by danlev

Multi-submit is a tabbed interface built into the Submit page which allows you to upload and submit multiple deviations at once.

There are several ways to upload multiple files:
  • Drag and drop several files onto the Submit page at once.
  • Select several files from your Sta.sh by opening the "Select file from Sta.sh" modal and dragging to select, or by using control+click (command+click, for Mac users) to highlight several files at once.
  • Submit an entire stack from your Sta.sh by hovering over a stack and clicking Submit!
You can then change settings for each one, and then save them for later or submit them to your gallery. In addition, the Submit page will retain the order and settings of any files uploaded, even if you navigate away from the page itself, which means that you can complete the submission process at your convenience, from anywhere you go, without having to keep track of what you were planning to submit or when.

Scheduled Submit

Screen Shot 2013-05-14 at 11.38.10 AM by danlev

Scheduled Submit lets you upload and prepare submissions, then set a time and date for them to be publicly posted to deviantART. For deviants with a busy schedule, or for those who are likely to upload and submit multiple deviations at once, this gives them the opportunity to prepare and present their work to their watchers without having to worry about flooding Message Centers or risking works going unnoticed.

Once you select and confirm your date and time, that file's tab will turn orange and will remain on the Submit page each time you come back to it.

Try it out!

Go to the Submit page and give these new features a try!

As of now, there are no limits to the amount of submissions that are queued up. We are working on finalizing the specifics for these limits, so we'd love to hear your feedback.

We appreciate any and all feedback you have, and if you run into anything that works differently than you'd expect it to, please let us know in the comments on this article. If you encounter any bugs or other issues, please file them in the #devBUG Issue Tracker, under the Multi-Submit project.

For now, I can't have more than 100 scheduled photos in stash waiting to be posted. Is 100 really the limit?

This should be available to all artists, not just premium members; this is a very necessary tool and is needed, but excluding it to premium members isn't utilizing it to its full potential. I have a deviation I want to schedule for submission the 25th, but because I can't ever have a premium membership, I have to find freetime on the 25th (which would be very limited, for obvious reasons) to submit it then, whereas if I could schedule it, that'd save me a lot of trouble.

That said, I wish deviantART would be a little more mindful of all artists... premium memberships obviously have a lot of perks, but it seems to be a number of tools, features, widgets, etc. should be made available for all artists.

Does it only schedule so far in advance? I wanted to schedule a post for December 29, but was frustrated to see that I could only schedule up to December 21.

Currently you can only schedule up to 3 months in advanced.

I am not seeing any option at all to speak of to schedule submit. Nothing. Yes, beta testing is turned on.

Nope Dan I see nothing as far as "schedule" goes. I switched browsers to Firefox and I can see it now. Was on Chrome. Very strange.

Maybe it's an extension or plugin you have installed? Sometimes AdBlock can cause issues like that.

Hello! I have been using the schedule feature for a while now, and I have a few suggestions/concerns! (I was directed to comment here) First let me say as a comic artist, who updates weekly, this feature is a big help! However, since I tend to upload at least one submission a day, in addition to the comics I've already made, the fact that the scheduled uploads stay on the page is rather troublesome... Right now I have at least 10 uploads scheduled though April. The fact that the page must load all those submissions, some not due to be seen for a month, really slows the page loading... So I understand as it is now scheduling uses the multi-submit tabs as a base for saving all the uploads. What if you change the scheduler to use more of the sta.sh system for it? That could keep the to be uploaded devs out of the way when uploading your random inspiration or daily works. Um... I think that was I wanted to say...

I like it, you should add the 'Scheduled submit' to journals as well.

Yes, you either have to buy a premium membership or have a premium membership given to you as a gift in order for you to have the new features.

Hi, I have a suggestion too! I don't know if others have mentioned it, but I think that it will make the scheduled submit more useful-
Instead of only the hour, I think that it'll be better if we can be more exact about the scheduled submit, and add minutes to it too! Example- Submitting deviation at 7:35 pm
For now, it's Submitting deviation at 7:00 pm only, no scope of minutes...
I hope that this is a suggestion worth considering, and I apologise if I'm being too vague or pointless.

Here's a suggestion, Hope you're listening.

My idea is to have submissions or journals be released at a certain event, not time.

My vision is that you would have a premade "thanks for the XXX amount of views/watchers" thing, and when you hit that amount of views/watchers/comments etc, the deviation is released.

I'm sure you can do it, it'd be easy!

I would suggest changing the date format for scheduled posts to YYYY/MM/DD.

Because Americans use the format MM/DD/YYYY and most of the rest of the world uses the format DD/MM/YYYY. This makes dates like 04/05/2014 ambiguous. Is this the 4th May or 5th April?

I love the scheduled submitting system, it's really handy when I'm at work and wanting to upload artwork and organise myself :) really easy to understand and love the layout. Good job!

One thing I was wondering (I don't know how possible this is) is if there was a way to organise the tabs (like drag them around) - I uploaded a few deviations but wanted them to upload in a particular order. Also maybe have some sort of calender so you can see when your deviations are going to go up rather than clicking on the individual tabs.

And was also wondering about being able to have the option to also submit to group galleries in advance so you can get it all done in one hit.

These are really REALLY tiny things that I think would just make this function a little easier to manage, nothing important ;)

Apologies if someone's already mentioned this and you're answering the same question! Keep up the good work! :dalove:

The multi submit thing has some issues.
I just tried to upload 6 photos.
It got them all confused, all the names wrong, then in the end only uploaded one photo with the wrong title.

If it worked better this could be a great feature though

Please do not remove the Schedule thingy. IT REALLY HELPS ME!!!! I WAS ALWAYS WISHING FOR THAT TO HAPPEN!!! More because I have a comic being uploaded here and I was always uploading it every Saturday at the first hour. But now with this, I am less longer preoccupied with me staying late for submiting a deviation and now it upload by ITSELF!! THIS IS BRILLIANT!!!

Scheduled submissions are an idea I was fully supportive of when I saw the user suggestions, and I think they might be the first suggestion to have appeared in the site update notice 'Your Feedback' area and actually get added afterwards.

I don't even make pics fast enough to justify using it, but I know a few people who'll really appreciate it when this feature is finalised and rolled out throughout the site. Thank you!

Would this have the potential to fuel bots and spammers to post ridiculous amounts of things in short periods without trying?

Oh, and it worked like a charm.

I'm also glad to see that a potential problem was taken care of before it got out (potentially submitting stuff in the past). Believe me, I tried to do that, and it said that you can't use a past date.

I greatly approve! Especially of the scheduled submit, since it allows me to submit art even when I'm on vacantion or during exams (both periods in which I tend to lose a lot of active watchers, which is frustrating). Really nice features! :la:
