Pageviews by danlev

As of today, we've updated the way Profile pageviews are counted for deviants and Groups.

Many years ago, we expanded the pageview counter to include not just the front page of your Profile, but also the Journals tab and the Prints tab (but not individual Journals or Prints). We mistakenly never expanded the count to other areas of the Profile.

This has been inconsistent for quite some time and we haven’t been transparent about what exactly this counter included.

Starting today, the pageview counter will begin including pageviews to all sections of your Profile, including:

  • Gallery and Gallery Folders
  • Favourites and Collections
  • Other profile subpages: Activity, Badges, Daily Deviations, Critiques, Gallery Stats, Polls, Wishlist

We felt that it was important to fix this inconsistency to properly reflect traffic to all deviants’ Profiles. If an artist gets a lot of traffic to their Prints shop, this should be reflected in the same way it would if an art appreciator had high-traffic Collections.

We see the Profile Page in its entirety as a single entity and we want the pageview counter to properly reflect traffic to it regardless of the entry point.

Note that this change only applies to Profile pageviews and not deviation views or any other statistics.

Is it the same for group pageviews? Do my views as the founder count?

You probably won't see much of a change other than pageviews being slightly higher during the days after this Journal was posted.

It does sound intriguing, but...I don't see the changes on the pageview dialogue, where do I view the stats you mentioned?

There aren't any visual changes other than you might notice your pageviews might be slightly higher since this Journal was posted.

IMO, not really useful because who cares about pageviews? Stick with Google Analytics if you want to know where your traffic is coming from as it gives you more accurate data.

As long as it won't affect the "Blind To Pageviews" option(cause it's about quality not quantity for Me), then new stuff is always good to see. :)

Assuming that people actually care about pageviews, why in the world would we care if people are looking our badges, and wishlists? And since there is no way to parse out what sections of our profile is getting the most views, this is obviously an attempt to satiate people who only care about pageviews.

What about individual deviations and journal entries? Surely wouldn't they be one of the more obvious things to account for too?
I thought they counted :/

KaizokuShojo does have a point. To make dA more "friendly", a more indepth filtering system would be appreciated. It then caters for everyone.

Lots of people don't even care about pageviews.  Perhaps something a little more useful can come up on the to-do list next..? (Not trying to sound rude or demanding by any means, I assure you, but....help?)

The "more from deviantART" thing on most deviations I see--not just my own, but others' as well--have results completely that are not only irrelevant to the piece shown, but in fact can be quite...um...jarring, at best.

It's no secret that dA is used by many as a dump for their porn, fetishes, etc., and some of us don't want to see it...so we don't look for it, and consider it an end to the matter.  But the 'more from deviantART' section shoves it at us without us wanting it.  So if the "more from DeviantART" can't be fixed (which I have inquired about, hoping that at LEAST it would give us back relevant pieces to what we're looking at...but apparently it's not likely) at least make it so our Mature Art Filter is expanded.

What do I propose by this?  Make it so that not just deviations marked as Mature will be flagged, but anything with the words you've input to be flagged are covered with a different warning...Perhaps a yellow square with an exclamation mark over it.  If it's something, say, in your inbox and you believe it's marked incorrectly, you can just click on it, and like the mature content filter, it will tell you what it's flagged for (except this time, by the search engine and key words you put in) and you can look or ignore.

And it would be very useful if this was applied to anything on your page.  I do business from dA, and I am very shy now to point anyone to my art.  While the clients I'm working with wouldn't be put off by my pieces, the random and frequently downright odd/creepy stuff would confuse or push many away.  Many little old ladies will be fine seeing a photo of flowers, but click that 'back' button quickly at the sight of a naked, sexualized human-dog.  So, anyone clicking on your deviations will not see the yellow '!' or whatever is implemented to the side, but perhaps would simply see other deviations that are not ranked among the unacceptable.  (The only drawback is that not everyone tags their drawings superbly...but it does help, at least.)

Some might call me a prude, but when you're looking at a drawing of a car and off to the side there are male reptiles with giant boobs, and you're already a misanthrope....it's hard to maintain any kind of good mindset towards mankind with stuff like that showing up.  It's past absurd.  It'd be laughable if it wasn't creepy.

A system like this would work well with anything anyone didn't want to see.  Even if it was a tiny, non-important thing they don't like to be bothered with.  Not necessarily something jarring or head-shaking, just little matters--everyone has their pet peeves.  Even something totally innocuous like Twitch Plays Pokemon can grind on someone's nerves to the point that they can't bear to see another art/meme piece, or perhaps Twilight, balloons, puppies with giant eyes, or even eggs.  Who knows...but it seems like an idea worth thinking about/tweaking around.

If there was a 'like' button, I would use it right now. That is entirely clear and precise, and COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY agreeable...well... I started getting confused on the last paragraph, but I don't know what 'Twitch Plays Pokemon' is, so... yeah.
