In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

Change Log

  • In Porftolio descriptions, text that contained quotes and apostrophes would not display correctly. Fixed lepidosteus
  • Navigation buttons were not always shown on Sta.sh documents when that item's owner viewed them via direct link. Fixed drommk
  • The "Click here to browse comments in flat view" link displayed on areas with a large amount of comments did not work on the deviations page. Fixed by duraseb
  • Clicking the "Next" and "Previous" buttons in a Sta.sh stack would only work for the first click. Fixed by elhsmart

deviantART muro
  • All brushes have been given a slight performance boost. Done bymudimba
  • Text put into annotations is now cached. Suggested by bodhidewey, changed by mudimba
  • The Undo button now be used up to 10 times. Changed by mudimba

Sta.sh Writer

  • It was not possible to update the text of a literature deviation by uploading a new file. Fixed by Alisey
  • When editing the description of a stack within a stack in Sta.sh, the Add Media tool would not open. Fixed by inazar

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on last week's Site Update! Here's some of what you had to say:
  • Feedback regarding the release of additional CSS options for Journal Skins was positive.
  • In response to the Discuss topic, some deviants mentioned trying out Way Back browsing a few times, while others said they had never tried using Way Back. For those who said they had used Way Back, they mentioned using it to find very specific deviations.

Discuss!

For the past several days, there have been several server issues where often the server doesn't even load, or at times it takes an exceedingly long time to do so. Any thoughts on why that is? Thanks.

I have a suggestion.
On the "Friends" tab in the upper-right, there will obviously be the green (online) and red (offline) bullets, but maybe you should have a yellow bullet for online, idling.

Would it be possible to give us an update on the "Public Deviation Keywords" that were originally "coming soon" in this update from August of last year? wreckling.deviantart.com/journ…

Hi! This is a question to whoever will be so kind to answer: get into "Manage Deviations" from the "Submit" menu on the top bar of the site. How are your deviations ordered into the list?? Are they listed in a chronological order or just random? I'm pretty sure they were listed according to the submission date, but I think I've been seeing them in a totally random order since the second half of last year.
I think it is important to see the list ordered by submission date, it is helpful if you want to find one or more particular deviation and, well, manage them!

Hi there, I have some feedback not directly related to these topics.

Something I would really really like to have is an option to directly customize your gallery page.

I haven't used custom CSS on my profile yet but I'm planning to, and it's just bugging me so much that you can't directly edit your gallery, but have to use folders instead. So I either have to leave my main gallery page completely empty, or have my images in the main gallery as well but not styled.

Is there a reason this is not possible or has it just not been added yet?

If it's possible please add this, I'm sure many many deviants would be happy about it!

I'm using Opera browser for years. My current version is 12.17. It is Presto based Opera ( unlike versions 15+ ), released on 23rd of April this year( five days ago ). I don't want to switch to WebKit version since this one meets my needs better, and after this new update there is really no need.
Even before version 15 came out, I was always getting messages to update my browser or change it, but as I can see devian art works perfectly nice on presto engine, and beside annoying message everything else is great. Can you please remove it from the page for Presto Opera users, because it appears on every single page and it blocks top menu, or at least display it only on the first page.

Main browser Menu - Settings - Preferences - Advanced - Content - Manage Site Preferences. Add there:
deviantart.com
www.deviantart.com
sta.sh

And for each of these domains set in Network inset - Browser identification: "Identify as Firefox".

Preveously this method was good for everyone. Maybe something else in your settings is different.
However, we've got another method. You could hide that window with CSS.
1. Open the Notepad (or other simple text program) and write there the following:

#update-browser-banner { display: none !important; }

2. Save it with some name in .css format (for example, "noyellowbar.css") in following folder:

the_path_to_folder_with_Opera_browser\Opera\styles

3. Then open Main browser Menu - Settings - Preferences - Advanced - Content - Style Options and choose there the "noyellowbar.css" (or how you've named it).

If you already use some other .css, just add the line from the first step to the existing .css file.

The Google Analytics tool works wonderfully well.

Please, consider changing the background color for the community too. This is my only real gripe with deviantART. If it is fixed, I feel it could significantly improve the look and feel of the site as a whole. Art shows true colors and stands out best against a neutral background. See how neat and clean this blog skin is?

Thank you for considering it.

Something short and sweet; Get rid of advertisements with audio. Seriously. Those ads are both irritating and disruptive.

I don't know how many others are facing this problem, but I can't submit anything at all. I got a fic I want to get out, but I can't do anything else. I can get the text in, but the rest of the submission page is really messed up. I can't choose categories, the publishing options button doesn't do anything, and it just goes on.

If anyone else is having this problem, please let me know because I feel that I'm the only one having this problem right now. I hope DA fixes this really soon. I don't want my stories to not go unseen to my watchers.

I'M EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM! Like the heck? I get the fanfiction ready and everything but when I go to submit, I can't submit my fanfiction to the fanfiction category! For some reason it's only allowing me to submit it into the Journal Portal??

Chrome is what I usually use, I switched to IE and it worked, but I don't know what's the problem! Gosh that was so stressful lol, I was like will I not be able to submit again?

Whew, well at least I'm glad I wasn't the only one experiencing this issue and that we were able to find ways around it, hopefully they get it fixed!

Not yet. I'm not sure if this is just me alone since before the latest update to Stash, I got the first chapter of the fic out with no issues. Now I can't do anything really. All I can do is enter the text, description, title of the story, and that's it. Every other button doesn't work. I can't choose a category, publishing options is broken, and I just can't do much.

It looks like it may just be me after all. I guess I'll have to report this to the help desk after all.

Have you tried clearing your cache and cookies? that might be part of the problem, if not try using a different internet browser, I find sometimes if something doesn't work on one I'll switch to another. For example if it isn't working on Chrome(which hasn't been functioning right lately anyway, but that's beside the point) I will switch to firefox and it will work fine. Anyway, I'd try clearing cache and cookies, that might solve the problem.

Glad I could help :aww:. I'm really happy your solution didn't have to come in the same form mine for a big issue with fanfiction.net did, my computer crashed and after recovering it that was when it started working. :steaming: Luckily my story files were on my USB jump drive so I didn't lose them in the crash..

I've actually upgraded computers since then because of some other issues (I believe that was the one that got a virus I couldn't recover from, it might be the laptop that the motherboard battery died in, I can't remember I've slept since then) but this one has been pretty good, it is a windows 8 laptop from when they first went out on the market so it has a few bugs but it's been good either way.

argh, YES. I find it frustrating that deviant art doesn't have an app.
I've started using Pixiv a lot more recently, just because it has a decent app.
and I'm not talking a bout a mobile website, I find it even more frustrating that I'm limited when using my phone to browse online, often I just go straight to the desktop site anyway.
