In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

New Sta.sh Writer Look
Sta.sh Writer has a brand new look! In the original design, the look that you were presented with did not match the published version of the Journal. The new look is more consistent and also includes the title field in the default skin allowing you to title your Journal as you write it. Previously, you had to title your Journal after you were done writing it.

HTML Improvements (Beta Testers Only)
Journal writers who use HTML have asked for more control over their layout and the ability to use their own HTML to give their writing that extra bit of flare. Beta Testers are now testing improvements to the way Sta.sh Writer handles HTML, enabling advanced writers to seamlessly use both the live formatting editor and their own custom HTML at the same time. Read more about this feature and leave your feedback on the blog post.

Want to try this feature? Upgrade to a Premium Membership and enable Beta Testing in your Account Settings.

  • The Help Desk's bug report form was updated with more precise instructions on how to properly submit a bug. Fixed by $mpsb
  • Users had an option to block themselves in the comments dropdown (the option was shown but it did nothing). Fixed by $muteor
  • A small number of users had issues with authenticating via oAuth APIFixed by $shadowhand
  • In some browsers, the "Install" buttons were missing in the list of widgets on profile page's "Edit Page" mode. Fixed by $muteor
  • When viewing comment replies in the Message Center, the popup that displayed the original comment did not display deviantART muro comments. Fixed by $lendrick
  • Fixed various display issues with "Slideshow" button. Fixed by $muteor
  • A bug was fixed that prevented deviations that were in Sta.sh for a long time before being published, from being considered for the front page. Bug pointed out by *Hoshiichan
Sta.sh

  • In Chrome and Safari, it was not possible to open an image on page 2 or further of a shared stack. Fixed by $samshull

  • In IE8, the positioning of hovercards was off by a couple of pixels. Fixed by $samshull
  • Stack shadows were slightly cut off on selected hovercards. Fixed by $samshull

Sta.sh Writer

  • Deviation titles were showing up in the Sta.sh sidebar, and now are not. Fixed by $kemayo
  • The Writer toolbar was all jumbled up for a short period of time. Fixed by $inazar

Your Feedback
  • Artists should be able to receive notifications when your work has been featured in a Journal. From *H3llana-mod
  • When we leave a group we should have an option to take all of our work with us. From =katara-alchemist
  • Add the ability to watch polls separately from Journals. Right now, they're grouped together. From ~paperandpencil
  • Some members requested CSS gradient support for Journals. `SanguineEpitaph in the Suggestions Forum
  • ~KogamiNeko24 suggested that members should get a notification when they receive a Daily Deviation. She included ~Esi0n's mockup of the feature.
  • Longer taglines on profiles. From ~Animefan170
  • When commenting and interacting with other people in Groups, show their member status (member, contributor, etc...). From =Venomeye
  • For text deviations such as poetry and prose, the text entry mode and text preview mode displays different fonts and font sizes. This is especially frustrating when writing concrete poetry and other forms of writing that rely on the presentation of the actual text. Thanks for pointing out! We'll look into getting this fixed! From ~Shuriken95

:please: Could all people on deviantART possibly be able to create folders within folders? My favourites and gallery are messy; so an update like this would make it so much easier!

I really wish we could change our group's name without having to delete the group.

You guys need to fix the group permissions settings, they're all wonky and counter intuitive.

When you set a folder to automatically accept submissions from a contributor or admin, it removes their ability to edit said folder

Here's a suggestion:

Not all people use Sta.sh writer for writing journals. It would be great if there was another setup of Sta.sh writer for other literature besides journals. It just feels so awkward typing on a journal setup when knowing that you aren't writing a journal nor are trying to.

Not trying to overload the system, but it really would help if there was a second setup or skin or whatever for writing.

I have a suggestion on suggesting.:meow:

What if we could vote on the suggestions you pick, or at least support in a simple way as "liking" the suggestions? I want the community as a whole to be able to say what they think is important.

Doubt I'll get an answer, comment in a sea of others and all, but has there been any more discussion about the ability to change usernames? That's still the one thing I want the most on this site and it was brought up a month or two ago briefly. Really would love to get a complete fresh start like I have on other sites without having to uproot everything.

i gave my feedback for hiding aktivity and pageviews a few days ago. you told me that this is already possible. In Help chat they told me it is strange that it isnt possible to set both visibilitys seperatly and i should write a support ticket.
I got this Answer:
"Those two go hand in hand, so you can either hide or show both."

pls remove that and make it possible to give both different visibilitys.

I hope you understand my crappy english.

You know how a deviant's art gallery has a search tab so we can isolate their results from the deviations of other deviants! Well what if groups had that search bar in their galleries as well so we don't have to go through page after page to see if we have deviations added to the gallery already!

It would also be great if the pic on the homepage of our groups were set instead of having to be random!

Can anyone tell me why my group's name is always displayed with the avatar above the name wheras everyone else's is displayed with the name beside their avatar?!
