In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

The New deviantART muro Featuring Redraw
DeviantART's HTML5 drawing application, deviantART muro, now includes Redraw, allowing you to record your work as you draw. Every brush stroke, every layer, every little movement — all captured by Redraw. Save your work once you're finished and see your art come to life again in high definition playback.

The new deviantART muro also features a new look and a brand new smudge brush. Plus, your work is automatically saved to your Sta.sh, upgrading you from just 3 files slots to 2 GB of files — and 10 GB for Premium Members!

Bug Fixes

General

  • In the last Site Update, many members reported that the "remember password" and Terms of Service agreement checkboxes on the Points and Llama modals were failing to remember the previous setting under some conditions. This has been fixed. Fixed by mpsb and ZombieCoder
  • The Groups featured gallery folder icon had an incorrect link that did not display folder content. Fixed by muteor
  • Editing of images on some very old deviations resulted in 404 errors on image files. Fixed by chris
  • The journal skin editor's "save" button was displaying incorrectly in Sta.sh Writer.  Fixed by muteor
  • The friends dropdown list briefly did not display any friends. Fixed by shadowhand
  • Members were temporarily unable to submit to the concrete poetry category. Fixed by drommk
  • Various issues with the Sta.sh API documentation and implementation caused issues with folder renaming and updating a published deviation. Fixed by muteor
  • Gallery folder thumbnails were not appearing for Beta Testers. Fixed by muteor
  • Deactivated users briefly were prevented from using some features, if still logged in. Fixed by randomduck
  • On deviation submission page, Gallery Folder menu was disabled after submission category selection. Fixed by kemayo
  • Film program invitations were not getting sent for a period of time.  Fixed by mpsb
  • Profiles of banned users could be viewed on mobile version. Fixed by shadowhand

Sta.sh

  • Some HTML that was allowed on a Sta.sh item's description was not allowed on a published deviation's description. Fixed by adahacker
  • Clicking on thumb didn't work after moving it into a stack. Fixed by adahacker
  • The upload button wasn't always clickable in Chrome - Fixed by adahacker
  • When submitting, the publishing options were not properly selected by default. - Fixed by adahacker
  • Under some conditions, deviation thumbs lost width and height when saved. Fixed by kemayo
  • The "Edit Draft" option on the pencil menu wasn't loading the title. Fixed by kemayo
  • Using the link toolbar item to link to a journal or literature deviation uploaded with Sta.sh produced a broken image. Fixed by kemayo
  • Dragging files onto the Writer sidebar could double upload them. Fixed by inazar

Your Feedback

  • Several members suggested features for deviantART muro including: collaborative drawing, collaborative drawing with chat/microphone, and Redraw functionality in comment drawings. From Kalina1176, godeyes, Bewinxed, HindruDenver, RageChanTheYaoiFan, and others
  • Updates to a journal skin should be applied to all journals that use a skin, rather than each journal having to be updated individually. From *shadowrx

Discuss!  Lightbulb

Last week we received some great feedback from members about the Groups widget and the messages dropdown. Here are some more discussion questions:

Group affiliates: How do you feel about the Group affiliates feature? Do you feel it is useful and provides value to Groups? Do you ever browse through Group affiliates to find related Groups?

Group member management: How do you feel about the member management panel? How would you like to see it improved? Some Group admins love to tweak every advanced setting of their Group, but some may prefer to just get a simple Group up and running with only basic customizations. Would you like to see an option of having a simple, easy to use version of the interface that removes some of the more advanced functionality?

I'm going to quote what I said on the "group affiliates" poll, since I would definitely like my ideas to be considered. xD
"I do like the affiliates feature, but at the same time I think it leaves a lot to be desired. When I think of affiliating with another group, I think of something meant to bring different groups together. I'd expect something at least fairly meaningful to come out of an affiliation, such as a badge or some exclusive feature such as a cross-group chat within the Admin Area (which would help with collaborations and contests and such, so admin wouldn't have to spend forever finding and messaging other groups). Maybe even an optional widget that displays random works from an affiliated group's "Featured" folder. My examples are somewhat off-the-wall, but hopefully you get what I mean. At current, I feel like the groups are far to divided. The affiliation feature doesn't help bring the community together as I think it should."
