Several weeks ago, we released a sneak peek of deviantART's new thumbnails. We've been making changes based on community responses, and today we've implemented a few more. In this updated version, the font, spacing, and colors of the text under the thumbs have been adjusted. Sta.sh Visual Refresh

Today we have released a visual refresh of Sta.sh, deviantART's upload and publishing platform, giving it a cleaner, more modern look. One of the most apparent things you'll notice is a major change in the header, which is now white, to match the rest of Sta.sh. In addition, when viewing something in another user's Sta.sh, the topbar will display their icon and username, to indicate that you are in their Sta.sh and not your own.

What's New

Coming Soon: New Sta.sh Submit

Beta testers are currently trying out the new submission process for Sta.sh, deviantART's upload and publishing platform. This new version includes a simplified and tidier interface that makes it easier to understand and use. The feedback on this new process has been very positive, so we will be rolling it out to all members early next week. If you'd like to try it out early, upgrade to a Premium Membership and enable Beta Testing in your Account Settings.

UPDATED (APRIL 30): The new Sta.sh submission process is now live for all members! To try it out, visit your Sta.sh!

New Thumbnails (Beta Testers Only)

Just over a month ago, we released a preview of deviantART's new thumbnails. Since then, we've been tweaking the display of the thumbnails based on community feedback. Beta testers are now testing the new thumbnails throughout the site, including browse, search, galleries, and favourites.

Bug Fixes

General

At some browser sizes, print page images were being overlapped by the menu. Fixed by $muteor
Scraps category had incorrect file type restrictions. Fixed by $shadowhand
Deviations from the Scraps category were showing up when browsing by newest without selecting a category. Fixed by $shadowhand and $allixsenos
A default font color was missing, which made the site look odd to people who have adjusted their settings to override browser fonts. Fixed by $shadowhand
The Points modal had display issues when opened while another menu was opened. Fixed by `mpsb

Sharing tools disappeared. Fixed by $samshull
Literature thumbnails on stacks don't animate. Fixed by $kouiskas
When visiting a Sta.sh link while logged out, it would sometimes not redirect to the correct link after logging in. Fixed by $kouiskas

I really dislike the Stash submission form. Personally I'd prefer was the same as the regular submission form. :[ The description box is very narrow and difficult to type in, and the preview icon is hovering over the scroll bar so it's difficult to get to a to a specific line to edit it.

The new thumbnails don't work when one has a gallery folder skin in place, makes everything quite displaced.
I have a large laptop so thumbnails aren't an issue to seeing them in this new format, but it looks a bit messy from my perspective.

I just tried out the new sta.sh submit, and it's very buggy. I don't think your army of 13-year-old beta testers is quite cutting it (I don't mean to be rude to the beta-testers that ARE doing their job, it's just that I see a lot of little rugrats with a = beside their username that I know are probably not doing their job).

It won't keep spaces between sentences. For example, I'll type something, hit return, and do so more, and it will "save" the progress when I click away to another window or tab....and it'll all turn into a block of text. Spaces are kept, new paragraphs are not. It also does not display

in preview mode, and possibly doesn't display other emotes. I haven't tried. It also doesn't display some special characters (I put a male symbol into the text, and it reverted to its code, and won't show up as what it should be in the preview--just like : bulletblue : didn't.
I don't know if there are other issues...I got too frustrated with it, and quit trying. The new way looks nice, but is too buggy for me to deal with at the present time if I don't have to do so.

Also, irrelevant to the former topic but still important, is there a way to turn off scrolling through messages with the left and right arrows? I hate this because I often accidentally hit < or > instead of up or down, and with dial-up...it becomes a nightmare. So a way to disable it, if it exists, would make my life easier.

Even though it'll be easier to see the devitations bigger, it still glitches on my phone and other phones. I kinda think it needs to be fixed! It doesn't show the thumbnail all the way!

I wrote up a lit piece in St.ash writer and submitted it via Sta.sh (ditto on the formatting issue someone mentioned but I saw the response.

) I saw in my message center that someone faved this piece, but when I looked at the stats on on the deviation it shows 0. The fav came in over 14 hours ago so it's not like I'm being over-eager.

I really wanted to like the thumbnails. I do like how they look, but as I said in a previous comment, they are too big for my screen and I can only view two rows of art at a time. In addition, I have discovered over the past several days that the thumbs are too big for practicality purposes too. Something about the nature of the big thumbs makes it harder to drag and select several at once - something I do daily when choosing artwork to feature in my groups, or when organizing the galleries and subgalleries at #DD-Catalogue. It's just harder to select thumbs accurately without accidentally clicking on the piece or highlighting irrelevant stuff. Please at least improve this functionality before extending the big thumbs to all members.
