In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New Titles Always Display
Titles on items will now always display. Previously, titles only displayed while hovering your cursor over the items. This simple change makes the interface clearer and makes it easier to identify your items.

Bug Fixes

  • DeviantART was invaded by FUR. After FUR's article received over 500,000 pageviews and 50,000 comments in one day, the felines were contained and the situation was resolved. Fixed by the deviantART community
  • In the Message Center, if a journal was written using non-latin alphabet letters, such as cyrillic letters, some of these letters are replaced with random symbols. Fixed by drommk
  • The preview for Group Journals was not rendering in Opera. Fixed by lendrick
  • Archiving or restoring Group Notes was causing "Undefined" error. Fixed by mpsb
  • The "checkout" cart item counter on the top bar was laggy. Fixed by muteor
  • In the mobile Message Center, multiple fixes were made to the deviation and journal thumbnails and layout. Fixed by shadowhand
  • The "unfavourite" command now properly works on your deviations that you've added to your own collections. Fixed by kemayo and shadowhand
  • Shop thumbs and titles were not aligned for brief period. Fixed by ZombieCoder
  • Made improvements to the pressure brush to have smoother lines, especially when releasing pressure at the end of strokes. Fixed by mudimba
  • The display of the hovered selection of a single item was slightly broken. Fixed by samshull
  • Dragging a file in while superbrowse is open now closes superbrowse. Fixed by samshull
  • While using Writer, dragging images on the actual interface such as logos and icons no longer causes errors. Fixed by samshull and Alisey
  • When rapidly switching between pages, one could sometimes end up with a URL not matching the page contents. Fixed by kouiskas
  • Pressing enter on the password field didn't trigger login on IE8. Fixed by samshull
  • Fixed styling of the item renaming text field. Fixed by samshull
  • Made the error message clearer when an item contained unsupported characters. Fixed by kouiskas
  • Part of the shadow was missing on freshly uploaded stacks. Fixed by kouiskas
  • Literature and Writer thumbnails no longer scroll while being dragged. Fixed by kouiskas
  • While composing a new Writer document, the URL of the page you're on updates automatically. If you reload the page or copy and paste the URL of the current page, this URL will work properly now. Fixed by kemayo
  • Inserting deviations into a Writer document was outputting a thumb with an incorrect URL. Fixed by kemayo
  • The Writer sidebar now uses a shrunk-down version of the file viewer on your home page, which fixes a number of inconsistencies and bugs. Fixed by kemayo
  • In the Beta Testers version of Writer that includes HTML enhancements, text that included the "<" sign was being interpreted as HTML code and was causing display issues. Fixed by kemayo
  • When manually adding a list using HTML, the actual code was being displayed rather than formatting it as a list. Fixed by inazar
  • When you open a new documents and don't type anything, a draft is no longer saved since the document is empty. Fixed by inazar
  • Optimized performance of the process that checks whether writer contents have changed. Fixed by Alisey
  • Fixed an issues that caused the gallery and favourites sidebar to insert images twice. Fixed by Alisey
  • Drag-drop of elements within the page should be working again (in particular, dragging images from the sidebar to writer, and dragging images around inside the writer area). Fixed by Alisey
Your Feedback

bradleysays suggested that the Journal Portal section of the footer should have the ability to switch between the category of Journals displayed.

SanguineEpitaph suggested the idea of a Priority Inbox feature, which would allow you to select your favourite artists or close friends and create a separate "Priority" section of your Message Center.

Critiqueable's should be able to be searched by category. If I only want to critique Literature, I have to flip through all the newest critiqueable art from all categories.

When searching, we should be able to skip search tabs if we don't want to specify a theme but we do a style. For example, if I'm in the mood to read sonnets, I have to specify a specific subject, like "Family Life" or "General Poetry" in order to then search sonnets. We should be able to search by style without specifying subject.

I would like to suggest more search options for subscribed members, for example not putting limits, for them, in the number of artworks displayed after a search.
hey... can you only buy a membership online or can it be in a store of somekind... I would love to know... thanks n_n<3

You are able to buy a Premium Membership on the websites' shop, since this is an online website, I don't imagine they're in stores. Though you can buy dA merchandise.
I do realize this comment was made a year ago, but... eh, I tried >w<

DA, I think you have mixed options in "report" form!
MirachRavaia Featured By Owner Apr 12, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
Rather than just a "Priority" folder in the inbox, it would be great to be able to make custom folders where you can add artists and groupy you want to watch separately.
Luo-Qin Featured By Owner Apr 12, 2012
this is just a suggestion but for the journal entries could you make it so you can display more then one journal entry?? Kind of thought about this while holding a contest, because I want to have one entry so people can see the contest and the other for regular journal entries, thats how I got the idea, incase you dont understand what I mean..

A lot of times while I browse deviations I really want to know what tools (applications) or media an artist uses to make their art, is there any way to mark out another (optional) box to fill that just says media used, or something, and that could be added to the bottom of the artist's comments?
icytemporalist Featured By Owner Apr 11, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
Okay I'm here with a different suggestion to the usual Mobile DA support for the 3DS.

When one has an equal amount of favorites on two deviations and that amount would count both deviations as 'the one with the most :+fav:s", would it be viable for both to be shown, when looking at the in-depth section of a deviant's statistics?
Velvet--Glove Featured By Owner Apr 11, 2012
:bug: Don't know if this is a known issue, a bug or a "feature" but I discovered today that submitting a new deviation using results in that deviation NOT being included in the Browse (All) section of my gallery.

The consequences of this omission means that:
a) visitors using the general Browse link at the top left of a gallery will not see such deviations
b) they are harder to find for routine things like submitting to groups
c) they do not show up when you do a search of your gallery
d) they do not display in the "Newest Deviations" widget on your profile
...and probably more things I haven't discovered or thought of yet.

All in all this is very disappointing. I will not be using again to upload deviations until this is resolved.

I hope someone reads this and takes note.

Guys, my Slideshow app has been malfunctioning for months now......Keep getting the "....unable to parse..." error for Featured, Logons, and most of my other folders. Driving me NUTS! Please fix this.:D

Have you sent a report to the help desk?
Y-N-1-F Featured By Owner Apr 11, 2012
Oh yea! I got 2 answers from them already today....was told to add the Slideshow widget back to my profile (I had removed it because of the error) so they could get a technical guy to check into it. So, I'm still waiting for it to get fixed. But, at least they got back to me rather quickly, huh.:D
Katy-L-Wood Featured By Owner Apr 11, 2012  Student General Artist

I don't know if you'll even see this comment, but I would love it if when we donate points to somebody that we could leave a little comment as to why we'd done that.
Like if somebody was entering a contest that used points, it could be something like "This is for the contest"
Or even "I'm giving you these points to show you how much I love your work"
Or "Here are the points for my commission"
Katy-L-Wood Featured By Owner Apr 10, 2012  Student General Artist
Sounds like a good idea to me.

Another idea: let poll owners see results without participating.
timothymh Featured By Owner Apr 10, 2012  Student General Artist
I have said this before, and I will say it every time until you fix it.

When you introduced business cards, everyone was annoyed that they disclosed information that deviants could hitherto only see on their user pages. So, you gave in and changed it after a couple days. Now it only shows the artist type. (Frankly, the way the grammar works in a lot of those makes that "feature" unbearable, but that's beside the point.) You're really missing a key element to the way people think and act here: people want to control what other people can see. Even Facebook has that feature! Here's all you need to do to make everyone happy: Give us customizable privacy controls for our "business cards"! People who are really paranoid about information disclosure can tighten their preferences, and people who feel more free with their info can loosen them up!

Please just implement this! From what I know about coding, as well as common sense, this really wouldn't take a terribly large amount of work, and it'd please everyone. Come on, people, please!

I suggest DeviantART should add a "Delete" button when it comes to comments other DeviantART members leave on their profile page or gallery. Rather that just been able to simply ‘Hide Comment’ any unwanted comments, people should be allowed to ‘Delete’ them.

I love the updates, but I would like to suggest something c:
I saw many comment fights on here and many, many people were mixing up banned deviants with closed accounts so... Could you please make a different symbol for both kinds of deviants (example: the banned deviant is !username1 and the closed account is ?username2)?
nukiitose Featured By Owner Apr 10, 2012
I suggest DeviantART should add the "ability" to changing our username in the settings section.
BurningSpinKilljoy Featured By Owner Apr 10, 2012  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
The Priority Inbox is awesome!:iconcatlaplz:
Also, I have an idea.Since lately I have a lot of activity messages and I want to thank all the deviants for the faves, llamas etc; I would really love if you could think of a way to thank them all at once.Like, selecting a group of people that will receive the same mesage.
Ex:Thank you for the fave/watch/llama.It'll take less time than going to the profiles of each and every deviant.
Cheezyem Featured By Owner Apr 10, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
