We're proud to announce a new integration with Verold, a platform for artists to upload their 3D work and publish it to the Web. Verold's viewer is now integrated into deviantART Journals, giving you the ability to showcase your 3D art.

Verold offers artists a number of tools to collaborate in real time on the Web, add textures, and set up 3D scenes. Verold also supports limited animation, letting you bring your character or scene to life.

Verold's viewer works on most modern browsers without any plugins, as well as on modern mobile phones.

Uploading Your 3D Art To Verold

To get started, sign up for a Verold account and then upload your models and textures.

How To Embed Verold In Your Journal

After uploading your work to Verold, sharing it on deviantART is easy. Simply copy and paste a Verold URL (e.g.: studio.verold.com/projects/53003e790bc9ea02000002ab) into your deviantART Journal and it will automatically embed the Verold viewer to let your audience interact with your 3D creations.

Just a heads-up, the Verold viewer fails to start if you have the HTTPS Everywhere extension installed in your browser. I did a bit of investigation when I could get the viewer to start - turned out that connection to googleapis.com was failing. Turning that particular rule off in HTTPS Everywhere, or disabling the extension, will fix the problem. I'm using Chrome on Mac OSX 10.9, but I suspect this will also occur for other browsers and OSes where HTTPS Everywhere can run.

Will there be support for other embedded 3D providers such as p3d?

At first, I thought this was going to be something along the lines of what's being done with motion books, i.e. embedded viewer in the stead of the deviation itself.
I don't mind this update, but I hope that DA gets their own 3d viewer, at least when IE starts to adequately support webgl.

Yes, exactly! 3D on the web is something that has been promised for decades. We now have the perfect storm of technology (both standards like WebGL, but also the hardware is performant enough). You will see a lot more 3D on the web in the coming months, not only the simple embeds like what you're seeing from Verold and Sketchfab here, but also much more seamless integrations of 3D and web technologies. It can be frustrating to see WebGL roll out slowly to some devices, but also very exciting to see the promise of what future experiences can be!
