Watch connects you with the people you watch by creating a sequential stream of activity, including deviations, journals, favourites, status updates, and more.

Today, we’re introducing some changes based on community requests: the ability to filter Watch, improved display of group deviations and favourites in Watch, and, by very popular request, separating group deviations in notifications.

Customize Watch Using Filters

We often hear from the community that deviants want to filter or dive into specific types of content on Watch. We’re happy to introduce a set of filters that let you customize what you see in Watch.

This is not a permanent feature, but we think you’ll enjoy the experience until Watch evolves into a more personalized feed. Our goal is to make Watch a personalized platform to discover and consume what’s interesting and relevant to you. Your choices and usage of these filters will help us build a more personalized Watch in the future.

These new features are live on the desktop site and in the the latest version of the DeviantArt Mobile App. An update to the app is now available in the App Store and Google Play.

Improved Thumbnail Grid for Group Deviations and Favourites

Deviants have told us that group deviations clutter their Watch, so we’ve introduced a new design that rolls up group deviations into a single update. With this change comes a new design for favourites folders and group deviations, both on desktop and the Mobile App. On Mobile, you can now swipe horizontally to scroll through favourites folders and group deviations directly from Watch.

(Note: This change is not retroactive; deviations submitted to groups prior to this change will still appear separately in Watch.)

Group Deviations Separated in Notifications

We surveyed a pool of deviants regarding group deviations and the feedback was overwhelming; deviants want group deviations to be separated out from regular deviations in notifications. This was also a popular request in the
DeviantArt Suggestions Forum. As of today, all deviations submitted to groups will be separated out.

(Note: This change is not retroactive; deviations submitted to groups before this change was made will still appear in your main “deviations” section. For deviants who use the splinter navigation menu, your deviation count currently still includes group deviation, but we are working on fixing this.)

Unwatching Deviants Now Removes Their Content From Watch and Notifications

When you unwatch deviants, their notifications (deviations, journals, polls, critiques, etc.) will now be automatically removed from your Notifications and Watch.

Try it out!

I'm not sure what it is that's causing this, but the "X" button to get rid of notifications on some sections of my inbox doesn't work. It was just the first two deviations that would not even recognise that there even was an "X" button, but not the first four deviations in my inbox won't allow me to click on the button.

It's not a terrible problem, seeing as I can still remove the deviation notifications from my inbox by clicking into them and hitting 'remove from notifications' but it's quite annoying to constantly have to click into images I don't want to see.

It's a very odd and weirdly specific problem that I don't quite understand myself.

I've been having the same problem with the first three notifications in all of my sections except for journals and polls for weeks. Have you found out how to resolve it yet?

Yeah, that's exactly what I've got, first three notifications, but everything else is selectable no worries. I can get rid of these notifications by clicking into them and hitting 'remove from notifications' but it's still annoying.

It seems to me that it's an on-and-off problem. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not.
It might be something to do with adblock--I looked at the dimensions of the ad that would be there compared with the space left un-clickable. It lines up almost exactly with ads that aren't there. So it might be like a 'phantom ad' thing, a blocked out area that's trying to call upon data that will never come thanks to adblock.

That's only an educated guess, but it's the best explanation I can come up with. Searches and queries have come up with nothing thus far.

Yep, just paused adblock and that does seem to be the case since I can remove notifs now. Thanks for that heads up, hadn't considered it!

I'm glad it seems to have solved the issue.

It's kinda funny actually; the ads are annoying us even when they're not actually there! :XD:

I love this website, which is why it sucks so much that the app is complete garbage. The watch feed in the app is a disorganized mess and I honestly cannot even fathom why you people thought it would work well. I don't want to see deviations in order of what time they were posted at; I want to see them organized by author or group and ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO DELETE THEM THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

You basically made an app that has a completely different setup from the original website, ignored everyone telling you how terrible it is, and then go and make the changes in the app applicable to the website. Now that you've read that, maybe you'll realize how backwards and stupid that idea was. Please just fix the app. Just let me delete notifications and stuff from my watch feed for God's sake.

the new settings are supposed to be for the app? then WHY they effect the normal webside as well? Also my Message Center, pardon notifi-thing (the F**K! I am GERMAN and can't even READ that f**king word! What's wrong at "Messages"?) are full of bugs.
I use ACTIVATED Stacks for deviations, User Deviations as well as group deviations, but since you changed the settings to what they are now, the group deviations are OFF. EVERY f**king time! I have to click it back to activated again and AGAIN! I never had those problems before this

I think having a separate thing for group deviations is a great idea. I already keep my deviation count under 50 so it didn't make much of a difference to me, but I know that for most people groups make up a large majority of the deviations they see. Makes it easier to blaze through a large stack and quickly lower your numbers. Now if only I could get myself on top of my comments and replies...

As with all updates second party apps are being created to revert the new updates back to the preferred view and function, DA could learn a multitude of functionality from a pc app called protopage, it allows you to add the parts you want, delete the parts you do not, the part I cannot fathom is not everyone is interested in "FEEDS" in my world they are called "RAMS" because they are invasive unwanted information forced upon the user, in the real world that effect is also called "SPAM"
I once remained logged in to DA and visited several times a week, after all of the rebranding I have lost the intensity that I once had from this site, I tried to get an opinion from veteran artists however they have left in droves.
There is one option I would like to see regarding "Notifications" I don't care what you call it, however I would like the option to opt out of Deviantart "notifications" after all considering you don't care about the users feedback what makes you think I care about your useless generic messages, they are what they are "SPAM"
I once belonged to several groups and due to the recent changes in order to enhance my experience and expectations is was easier to leave all of them.

To be honest, seperating group and personal deviantations is actually really frustrating. If you guys aren't going go change it back, then PLEASE, at least make a seperate section/tab for group deviantations, so that they aren't mixed in with journals and polls. I am an orginized deviant and do not like them mixed up.

But they're in their own section just under the other deviation messages.... it IS organized, more so than they used to be when all deviations were mixed together.

I know it's not ideal. But you can take screen shots when viewing an image and crop it if needed later . That's the work around I've been using.

The one thing I am sad about is that the separate Group watch does not have the option to see the Big Thumbs like you can see in the older section when you have premium membership.

The big thumbs have been very useful, especially for viewing fanfiction and comics as they allow you to read the descriptions the author/artist posts along with their work, allowing you to tell more easily what fandom the story is for (for fanfic) as people don't always post a summary in the body of their work or for comics, links to earlier pages. This is especially important for multi-fandom groups. Now that I can't see it in groups any more, I often find myself just clicking people's work away as I can't tell what the post is about in just the scrolling preview.

So far, my premium membership was gifted to me but I was considering extending it myself just to keep this great feature but without that feature, I'm just not sure it's worth it.

This makes the pictures harder to see so I often just delete without viewing. I pay for this "service". A retrograde step. It was much better before.
Maybe you should put it to a vote of subscribing members. New system is rubbish but I'd accept a majority vote.

Is there a possible option of combining the two? Or, maybe a way to put the two on the same line? Seems a little bulky for me to see two separate lines of deviations.

There's one request I would like to make that MANY of the community have asked,
when someone reports an art thief with evidence, you actually ban the thief and remove the stolen
artwork instead of telling us to go to a legal site DMCA TakeDown where you have to pay to have your
stolen artwork remove, which is pure injustice.
Reply
:icondanlev:

You don't need to pay to have your artwork taken down. If you see someone who has uploaded someone's copyrighted artwork, you can simply contact the artist and let them know, and provide a link to our DMCA Takedown form and they can simply fill it out.

Even so, repeat offenders who have been reported for stealing
several works from other artists should be banned after the
third time yet I know two users who literally have their entire gallery
full of stolen content.

Maybe if someone posted this issue to a news website? Art Theft is a crime and
with this website fully aware of all this theft and choosing to be lazy and shrug it
off to a flawed 'solution' instead of fixing the problem themselves, this might help
whoever is running DeviantArt to get a clue about this.

I know for a fact this website has millions of users and DA makes a lot of money, so
if they're understaffed they should hire more admin and actually do their job.

Heck I even gathered evidence(practically did their job for them) and they told me to
go to the DMCA TakeDown notice. I pointed it out with a screenshot that you had to
pay to use the service and since then I haven't received a single reply from them.

having only those small previews in the Group Deviations Stacks DEFINITELY SUCKS ! It's maybe a strategy for getting more viewers but it rather has the effect of getting less premium members.
having a button for changing the preview image size, that would be cool
